Impact of Classroom Overpopulation on the Academic Performance of Students: Case of Gbhs Yaounde

The study examines the impact of classroom overpopulation on students academic performance at Government Bilingual High School (GBHS-Yaounde). Driven by raising enrollment in Urban public schools, overcrowded classrooms have raised concerns about teacher effectiveness, students engagement, infrastructure adequacy, and absenteeism. the main objective was to assess how those factors, influence by overpopulation affect students academic outcomes. Using a descriptive survey design, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from the 322 randomly selected students (form three to upper sixth) through questionnaire and interviews. Finding revealed that overcrowding reduce teacher effectiveness, limit students academic performance. the study, suggest recruiting more teachers, expanding infrastructures, enhancing learning resources, and adopting flexible teaching strategies. it calls for policy reforms and community engagement to create a conducive learning environment that support academic success.
